Writing is such a marvellous gift; not only does it take readers to new places and allow them to have new experiences, but it also extends the imagination of the writer, which is promising for an innovative future.
The Mosman Youth Awards in Literature is a well-established competition which encompasses entries of both prose and poetry. Each year, students from both primary and senior school are invited to put forward their best entry. As winter was making itself apparent, the entries closed on Saturday 31 May, and the entrants have been waiting in anticipation while the adjudicators select their favourite pieces.
This year is the 22nd year of its occurence and excitement has never been greater with the awards presentation coming up in the next two weeks. Prizes are sponsored by the Lions Club of Mosman, Mosman Community College, Rotary Club of Mosman, Ferry to Mosman Fund and Peter Burke of Liley & Liley, Willoughby. Representatives of these parties show their support, as they always kindly make an appearance on the evening, which is greatly appreciated by all the finalists.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday, the 27th of August, at a special presentation ceremony at Mosman Library. Selected works are read out on the night which is a wonderful way to exhibit the hard work of the talented students.
