On the 19th September, members of the community came together for a great night of jazz down at Balmoral beach…beautiful sunshine, gorgeous music…no better way to kick off spring!
Hi, I’m Carina and I am part of the Queenwood Jazz Band. On the 19th of September we had the opportunity to perform in front of community members and be part of the Out and About Concert Series down at Balmoral. The theme of this series is ‘the sights and sounds of spring’ and playing jazz by the beach in the spring air was a fantastic way to kick off this theme and celebrate ‘young talent’ and ‘young spring’.
We played a variety of songs that we have been working on this year with several band members performing fabulous solos. Memorable moments include Amelia’s sweet solo on the saxophone, Holly hard hitting those drums and Tim (our conductor) taking it away!
We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience as is illustrated by the following quote by Pippy (Year 10): “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase our skills and love of music in the ‘Out and About’ concert series. We get to perform with friends, doing something we love, in a fun and supportive environment… what more could you want?”
It was a fantastic opportunity to play alongside the talented Mosman High Jazz Ensemble and to kick off the first of the series together! Many thanks to all the crew, band members, and members of the community who came down to watch this wonderful event. Make sure you check out some of the images below!
Finally, make sure you don’t miss out on the last out and about concert of the series next Friday night (17 October) 6.30-8.30pm featuring the Mosman Symphony Orchestra – take a picnic blanket down and share some quality bonding time while listening to sweet, sweet sounds under the soft spring sun!
