Now in its 15th year, 24/7 Youth Film Festival showcased young film-makers from the Northern Beaches and Mosman, giving them the chance to create their own short 7-minute film in just 24 hours, competing for a range of products and cash prizes worth up to $5,000.The Festival provides skill development, and acts as a stepping stone for young people thinking about working in the film industry.
On Monday 17 October, the 24/7 Youth Film Festival Committee hosted the annual 24/7 Youth Film Festival Final and Awards Night in the Grand Theatre at Warriewood United Cinemas. The evening had an ‘Oscars’ theme with all those attending encouraged to dress up.
This year, the committee saw 6 Mosman teams, of the total 23 teams who entered the Festival.
Patrick Blacker, a participant from Mosman High who won ‘Best Dressed on the Night’ this year as well as the ‘Junior Encouragement 2015’ award says the 24/7 Youth Film Festival “is an excellent initiative as it provides young people with a platform to express themselves in a unique, exciting and interesting format”
“Getting to see your masterpiece on the ‘big screen’ provides such a sense of accomplishment and pride” said Patrick. “What makes it better is that everyone here is young and have big dreams and ambitions, and seeing the films grow yearly is special in itself.”
The ‘Junior Encouragement 2016’ award was taken out by yet another Mosman team, with a few of the others also in attendance on the night.
‘I have strongly enjoyed participating in 24/7 over the past 2 years and although I didn’t receive an award this year, the whole experience outweighs a prize and a trophy. I strongly look forward to participating in 24/7 during 2017.’ Patrick concludes.
The 24/7 Youth Film Festival is coordinated by Mosman Council and Northern Beaches Council and this year was proudly and generously sponsored by Stella Maris College, Sydney Film School, Videocraft, Film Festivals Australia, Miller, Screen Actors Workshop, AFTRS, Sydney Short Film School and The Boat House Balmoral.
