What does it truly mean to be social?

Well, it is certainly different from person to person. But however you may feel about it, you must admit that everyone needs a little bit of it to stay healthy. We’re only human after all.
However, the sad fact is that many people, not just in Australia, but all around the world suffer from a plethora of different illnesses and disabilities which can seriously affect mental health in an individual and thus the amount of time they may spend with others.

Social Inclusion Week is a wonderful and welcoming program that will be held in many places across Australia and whose sole aim is to bring people together. It is directly aimed at disadvantaged Australians who are in some way experiencing isolation, whether it be from different forms of mental illnesses like social anxiety or unemployment, etc. Their arms are open to anyone interested in coming along and participating.

Social Inclusion Week runs from the 19th to the 27th of November.

Dr Jonathon Welch is the man who originally conceived the idea of a Social Inclusion Week for Australians. His main goal is to raise awareness about the isolation that many people go through on a daily basis.

Participation in events linked to the week is highly encouraged among young people, as isolation can have the greatest effects on people from 12 to 25 years old. Even though this age group is experiencing a higher trend, this is something that truly affects EVERYONE, so we encourage you all to attend and support this cause. You can do so by visiting the Social Inclusion Week website and finding an event that may interest you in your area. There is an abundance of different themes and activities that these gatherings will be based around, so there’s bound to be something that will make you want to participate 🙂
