Creating a Smoothie from our Garden – it was ‘mint’ to be

We’ve put together a recipe for a home-grown, local-based, nutritional meal for you to try yourselves!

As you know, here at View Finders, we have planted our very own edible community garden! You can see all the pics of us planting it here. And even thought the plants will take a long time to grow (psst, for example, did you know that strawberries take 2-3 months to grow?!), we wanted to put up a possible recipe that you could try at home!

This recipe uses mint leaves…and mint leaves have multiple health benefits, including the following:

  • aids in proper digestion, cleansing and detoxification
  • has a calming effect
  • is antioxidant rich, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial
  • mint helps maintain healthy skin
  • helps alleviate nausea, headaches, and respiratory issues, especially those involving congestion.

So here it is (psst, please send us your pics of your smoothie, we’d love to see them!):

Smoothie (delicious, healthy, easy to make!)

Ingredients

Straight from our garden:

1 cup fresh strawberries

1 cup baby spinach

6-8 fresh mint leaves

1 cup of ice cubes

Straight from our local grocer:

A little honey or maple syrup to sweeten

Optional add-ins:

  • tablespoon chia seeds
  • An additional cup of the leafy green veggie you chose
  • 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon maca
  • 1 serving of your preferred protein and/or green superfood powder

Method:

1. Place all of the ingredients into your high-speed blender and bend away for around 30-45 seconds or until nice and smooth.

There you go, we told you it was easy and simple to make! And all those nutritional benefits from the mint leaves will have you loving this recipe till the end of time! Talk soon.
